Three pipers piping
Students have an exciting new musical opportunity in pipes and drums as part of St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School’s Academy of Music.
The Pipes and Drums program provides a platform for interested students to receive specialised training in bagpipes and drums. Students have already started learning their new instrument, firstly on chanters before transitioning to bagpipes.
Pipe Major Richard Harris, who has over 40 years of experience as a piper and pipe major both nationally and internationally, has joined the school as part of this new initiative. Richard has competed at Grade 1 championship level, received traditional pipes tuition in Scotland, performed at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and worked with André Rieu and John Farnham. His most recent position was as Pipe Major of the Queanbeyan City Pipes and Drums. He is also currently a member of the Morwell Caledonian Pipe Band and the Warragul RSL Pipe Band Chapter’s Lead Piper and Tutor.
Pipes and Drums are an exciting addition to the St Paul’s Academy of Music which offers students a dedicated class-based focus for the development of their chamber, choral and orchestral skills.
Auditions for the 2024 St Paul’s Academy of Music will open later this year, with new and existing students encouraged to apply. Further information can be sought by emailing Ben Sim: bsim@stpauls.2.jtbsyn.com
